Computer Tips for Artists
When I was starting out as a designer, one of the first reference books I purchased was Bill Gray’s Studio Tips. It featured Bill’s calligraphic text and hand-drawn illustrations in a handy desk-reference format, with hundreds of useful production tips for “commercial artists” (as they were called at the time!). A few years ago, I was asked by publisher W.W. Norton & Co. to create a new addition to Bill’s Tips series for the digital age. The resulting book, Computer Tips for Artists, Designers and Desktop Publishers follows the series’ informal, user-friendly style. It contains 152 pages of useful information and illustrated examples for understanding and working with digital files, images, and color. There’s a special color section, a glossary, and handy charts of commonly-used font symbols. I still refer to my copy often!
